Coliving has proven to be a great choice for many people looking for luxury housing in big cities. There are big benefits such as furnished rooms and living luxurious without luxury cost. But with big benefits also come a few disadvantages like not being able to choose your roommates. Not sure if coliving is for you? Here are a few indications to sway you:

You like having people close by

Are you the type of person who likes having people around to talk to or keep you company? Do you like living with others or would you prefer to live alone? Is sharing communal spaces a problem for you? Living with others is the main component of this coliving thing. These are just a few questions to ask yourself when thinking about co-living. While you might be able to get away with not seeing your roommates, you’ll have to get used to having people close by at all times. Something to think about.

You like shared responsibility

Are you a team player or more of a solo sport? Are you excited about splitting responsibilities like taking out the trash and washing dishes or would you prefer to do it all yourself? Can you trust others to get things done or do you need to hover and micromanage when it comes to things being done in your home? With roommates comes shared responsibility and you will have to navigate what that may look like for your home in particular. Every place is different.

You like to pack light

Most co living spaces will have furnished apartments or homes which means  you won’t need to bring a lot of stuff with you. Do you have a thousand suitcases and boxes that need to be moved into your new place? Do you have a sentimental attachment to dressers and nightstands? Will you need to move a couch in from your old spot? If you have a heavy load, you may need to reconsider or find a way to store your things while in a coliving situation.

You don’t mind living with people you don’t know

Do you have stranger danger? Are you very particular about who you have in your space? Are you afraid of meeting new people or are you open to the idea of newcomers? In a coliving space, you will  likely not know the people you are paired to live with. While most companies vet every single person who comes in, you may have to become acquainted with people who have varying personality types and other quirks. For many, this could be a great adventure, for others — a nightmare. Which one are you?

You want to live in a big city

For now, many coliving spaces are in big cities. Cities where the rent and popularity are high. If you want to live in a place like Atlanta, for example, you may consider a coliving space to help you keep your bills low while still fulfilling your desire to live amongst  the fast pace and city lights. Do you love the busy life and crowded streets? Do you like big events and shows? City life might be for you and coliving might be your ticket in.
